Augusta
is at its best during Masters week. The flowers are
in bloom and the weather is wonderful. People are friendly and helpful.
And while you are here in Augusta, Georgia, enjoying
the Masters Golf Tournament, or bass fishing
tournament, you will find plenty to do. There are gyms
and fittness centers, sports and
recreation, a great variety of fine arts,
movie theaters, restaurants,
shopping and night life
entertainment. For the kids, there is Fort
Discovery. Transportation is also
plentiful.
- Will
the bathroom accommodate a wheelchair?
Yes the roomy bathroom has a raised, high toilet and sits right next
to the tub. Both have easy access. The shower/tub has Jacuzzi jets
for a soothing soak. The natural light from the window makes makeup
application easier as well as being well lit over the large mirror.
The tub has its own spotlight for safety.
- How easy
is it to find my way in the Augusta area?
Augusta’s main road (Washington road) intersects with Keg creek
road and most directions to anything you are looking for can be easily
found within this main corridor. Evans, Augusta and Thompson / Harlem
are all in Columbia County with Washington road as the central road
for grocery stores, department stores and restaurants, with chain
stores you may be familiar with such as Wal-Mart.
- What
are some of the local events in the area to look forward to?
Augusta, Georgia is home to the world renowned golf tournament
called the Augusta Masters Golf Tournament, and the
Georgia Golf Hall of Fame. Many other beautiful public
golf courses are also featured in our area. Our Spring weather brings
out the many beautiful azaleas, dogwoods and flowers that give Augusta
the distinction of being “The Garden City”.
Clarks Hill Lake and Thurmond Lake
cover 70,000 acres and have 1,200 miles of shoreline. The Clarks Hill
Visitors Center presents the area’s rich history, which includes
at least three Indian tribes and one of the first gold rushes. And
the exhibits of wildlife featured in an award winning architectural
building make this a must-see stop for visitors.

- Are
there public boat ramps and marinas in the area?
Less than two miles from your lakeside retreat, is the Keg Creek boat
ramp. You may park your boat in the Clarks Hill Rentals cabin yard
for your convenience, or use the private dock available just a few
short yards from the house. If you need to rent a boat, Trade Winds
Marina is close by and convenient with many options to meet all budgets.

- I’m
very interested in fishing. What does Thurmond Lake have to offer?
This lake features abundant white, striped, hybrid and wide-mouth
bass. Major tournaments are drawn to Clarks Hill
Lake such as:

- What
about other types of local entertainment and recreation?
Wildwood Park, located just across the water from
Clarks Hill Rentals, on beautiful Thurmond Lake offers
fishing and recreation and special events for everyone. It offers
some of the Southeast’s finest bass fishing,
with mega boat ramps, BMX trails, large picnic pavilions,
horse back riding trails, sailing, swimming,
and sandy beaches. Wildwood Park
is also host to Archery Shooters Association Tournaments
with over 1,000 national competitors. It is also home to the International
Disk Golf Association with its new headquarters recently
built here in the park, as well as an eighteen hole disc golf
course just recently completed.
A little closer
in to Augusta, in Harlem, Georgia, The Oliver Hardy festival
is celebrated annually in October. Harlem Georgia is Oliver
Hardy’s birthplace.

Are
there any restaurants near the Clarks Hill Rentals cabin?
La cantina can be reached at 864-333-5315. Call for reservations
Wednesday through Saturday from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Live classical
guitar is played to set the mood. The owner also provides entertainment
as a ventriloquist, with various puppets he has created for the
main characters.
The food is as unique as the entertainment. They are well known
for their marinades and mix of herbs, as well as the special method
of cooking. A one-of-a-kind setting with hand carving for bar and
wine display, made of the ancient trees which came from his property
of 500 acre land grant from the King of England. A real piece of
history and charm, while you enjoy a casual and comfortable evening
of excellent food and entertainment. La Cantina has been featured
in Southern Living Magazine twice.
- How do
I contact the owner?
The Contact Us page provides the telephone
number and email address of the owners. However you choose to communicate,
the listings enable you to directly contact an owner who really knows
about the property and can answer specific questions for you.
- How do
I make a booking?
Visit the Contact Us page for contact information. When making the
rental reservation, be sure to communicate your arrival and departure
dates, number of adults and children, and any special needs that you
might have. To ensure that details of the rental are communicated,
a clearly written rental agreement or lease is provided. A legally
binding contract, the rental agreement or lease includes defined arrival
and departure dates, payment schedules, detailed instructions, and
terms and conditions related to cancellations and refunds.
- What
type of deposit and payment due dates can I expect?
In most circumstances the rental agreement will require a booking
deposit of 50% to confirm the reservation, with full payment received
upon arrival. It is important that all payments be submitted as specified
in the rental agreement in order to avoid losing your reservation
and/or your booking deposit. In addition to the booking deposit, you
will also be asked to provide a refundable security deposit of $150
at the time of booking your stay. Specifics related to the security
deposit, including property maintenance, damages and additional fees
such as an 'Event Fee' for more than 4 guests, will be detailed in

- Where
can I find details on check-in times, pets, etc.?
Within the rental agreement or lease you can find terms related to
check-in and checkout times, maximum occupancy, pet policies, cancellation
conditions, and maintenance of the rental.
- How are
cancellation and refunds handled?
The cancellation policy associated with your rental agreement or lease
will clearly communicate penalties associated with canceling your
contract. Note that cancellations due to weather conditions are not
permitted. Travel insurance can protect your vacation investment if
unforeseen circumstances require you to cancel your trip.
- What
about travel arrangements?
The owner can advise you on some aspects of your travel arrangements,
including the most convenient airports, local car rentals, and alternative
transportation options.
- What
type of pre-arrival instructions should I expect?
In addition to directions to the property, you will be provided with
either a key or the name of the person who will greet you at the rental,
as well as the name and telephone number of some one at the location
who you can contact if anything goes wrong. Concerning the security
deposit, the expectation is that it will be paid in cash, local currency,
check or traveler’s check.
- What
happens when I arrive at the property?
The owners actually live on site and will meet you at the property.
You will also be given details of some one you can contact if something
goes wrong. If you are delayed, it is courteous to inform the owner.
- What
if there is a problem during my holiday?
It is in your best interest and the owner’s interest to fix
any problems immediately. Contact information for the owner will be
included in pre-arrival instructions and posted in the rental. The
person you have been directed to contact will be your best resource
to quickly resolve any issues.
- What
happens when I leave?
Check out policies are part of the instructions you will be provided.
The owners expect you to clean up prior to departure. At minimum,
the rental should be left tidy. There is a $150.00 refundable Cleaning
fee.

Checklist
Make reservations early
Planning ahead and booking early guarantees you maximum choice and access
to the optimal rental. Avoiding last minute bookings can also save you
money. Get lease or rental agreement, and get everything down on paper
so that everything is clearly understood.The deposit check for 1/2 the
rental fee plus $150 clean-up fee should be mailed as soon as possible
to secure your cabin for the desired dates.
Don't miss deadlines for deposits and payments
Missed payment deadlines can result in a forfeiture of monies and a
cancellation of your reservation.
Know your cancellation policy
The cancellation policy will be in writing. Be prepared to sacrifice
at least a portion of your deposit should you have to cancel. There
are non-refundable cancellation policies during peak travel times, such
as holidays, in which you could lose your entire deposit.
Get complete instructions in advance
Pre-arrival instructions will include details on how to gain entry to
the rental. Keys and the owner's phone number will also be made available.
